Another Tahoe winter is history, and it was a strange one in many respects. The 2008 water year does not officially end until September 30 (the historic low-point for water flow and reservoir storage in the Sierra Nevada), but the rainy season is essentially over.

Squaw Valley's Jigback Tram was born of necessity, constructed under duress, operated in peril, and retired as a legend. It was built under restrictions imposed during the Korean War. The odd looking wooden lift with the sideways chairs was meant to be temporary.
