The Village at Palisades Tahoe is paying tribute to man – and woman’s – best friend this summer with the 5th Annual Peaks and Paws Festival on Saturday, August 23. Dogs and their people can enjoy two stages of live bluegrass music, a pet themed vendor village, dog-friendly 10K race, complimentary dog treats and activities specially designed for furry friends. A $5 donation is encouraged for entry to the event with proceeds from the festival benefiting the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.

Squaw 2 Alpine 10K Trail Run
Festivities kick off at 9 a.m. with the second annual Squaw 2 Alpine 10K Trail Run. Participants are welcome to either run or walk the dog-friendly 10K course from Palisades Tahoe to Alpine Meadows. All proceeds from the race will benefit two, local nonprofit organizations: the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe and the Palisades Tahoe Alpine Meadows Foundation (SAF).To sign up for the trail run, visit www.squaw.com/things-to-do/events-calendar/alpine-squaw-10k-trail-run.    

K9 Kings Flying Dog Show
New this year, Peaks and Paws welcomes the K9 Kings Flying Dog Show. Guests can watch up to 13 different dog breeds put on a hilarious and endearing performance that features music, costumes, comedy, and audience participation. Among the pack of pups performing is the fastest Frisbee dog in the world and two American Indian Dogs - one of the rarest breeds in the world. Following the show families and kids will have the unique opportunity to meet some of the performing dogs. Shows are in the Tram Promenade at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
 
Fetch Fest
Starting at 2 p.m., Fetch Fest will be a timed ball retrieval contest to see which dog can retrieve the most tennis balls from Cushing Pond before time runs out. Pets and their people can sign up at Cushing Pond. Entry is $5, with all proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.

Granite Chief Hike
Guests can enjoy an exhilarating hike with the whole family, including Fido! A guided hike on the Granite Chief Trail will begin at 11 a.m. from Squaw Dogs, located in The Village. The hike is approximately 1-2 hours long, depending on ability.

“Yappy Hour”
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. guests can cool off with an ice cold beer for $4 each from the Lagunitas Beer Garden or enjoy wine offered by the glass.  Receive $1 off drinks and complimentary dog treats during “Yappy Hour” which is from 4-5 p.m. 

Live Music   
Headlining the musical acts is nationally renowned bluegrass band Poor Man’s Whiskey. The five-man band creates a rich sound using the banjo, keyboard, harmonica, guitar, mandolin, drums and vocals. Poor Man’s Whiskey has headlined at notable festivals and venues across the country, including performing for a sold-out crowd at The Fillmore in San Francisco. Poor Man’s Whiskey will perform from 5-7 p.m. on the Main Stage in The Village.

Throughout the day, guests can also enjoy live bluegrass performances by Angele and the Wild Wood Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Main Stage), Bison from 2-4 p.m. (Main Stage), and Low Flying Birds from 2-5 p.m. (First Street Stage).
