Running the PCT for Parkinson's Research

On October 1, 2011, at Donner Summit, Tahoe TV caught up with 24 year-old Sam Fox, who is running the length of the Pacific Crest Trail, from Canada to Mexico, to raise money for Parkinson's Research.

Fox's journey began in late August at the Canadian border and has brought him over 1400 miles to Donner Summit. His challenge - to run down the entire Pacific Crest Trail in under 65 days, and break the current record. His cause - to support his mother, Lucy, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, and raise funding and awareness for Parkinson's research via the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Sam's support crew, which leapfrogs to accessible intersections with the trail, met up with Sam at Donner Summit. The greeting party included a film crew, Sam's father, Jim, and the 'other' Sam Fox, son of Michael J. Fox (and no relation to Sam Fox, the runner), who came to represent his father's foundation.

While on Donner Summit, following an enormous non-stop leg of over 70 miles, Sam stopped just long enough for a short rendezvous with family, friends and supporters, a snack, a foot-wash, and a nap, before hitting the trail again with the entire Sierra Nevada range between him and Mexico.
