650 Turn Out for 10th Annual Truckee River Day

"The community came out like never before," said Wallace. "It was a reflection of this community's passion for rivers, creeks, and streams."

Volunteers including scout troops, school groups, families, and individuals worked on trail maintenance, re-vegetation, and stream bank restoration. The day ended with a barbecue, live music, and the release of 300 rare Lahontan Cutthroat Trout into the Truckee River at the Granite Flat campground on Highway 89 just south of Truckee.

"It was great!" beamed one Boy Scout at the end-of-the-day celebration. "My favorite part was releasing the fish into the river."

According to Wallace, the Truckee Sanitary District and the U.S. Forest Service offered key financial support for the project. For more information on the work of the Truckee River Watershed Council, call 530-550-8760 or visit www.truckeeriverday.org.
