Banzai Tour Launches in February

The 2014 Rahlves’ Banzai Tour kicks off February 15-16 at Palisades Tahoe followed by the rescheduled “Wall Banzai” at Kirkwood Mountain Resort February 22-23. The incomparable high-speed action of the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour spans four weekends in February and March at premier Lake Tahoe resorts.

Four competitors each in Men Ski and Men Snowboard who earn their place by winning a tour stop (or being the next in line if there's a repeat winner in one of the events) will advance to the Super Finals at Sugar Bowl to compete for $5,000 in the Men Ski Super Final against Daron Rahlves. And in a new 2014 addition, the men's snowboard finalists will compete in the Men Snowboard Super Final against 7-time X-Games Champion and U.S. Olympic Snowboarder Nate Holland.

The Super Finals will take place immediatley following the “Silver Belt Banzai” races at Sugar Bowl on March 15-16.

"I'm fired up to load the Super Finals gate at Sugar Bowl, and proud to be an ambassador of the Rahlves' Banzai Tour,” said Holland, a Tahoe local.

"I admire Nate's hard charging style, passion for snowboarding and life. He's a tough competitor with amazing board skills who has that Banzai fire."  said 4-time Olympian, Sugar Bowl Resort ambassador and tour founder Daron Rahlves. "Those in the gate with Nate—the winningest rider in the history of boardercross—will have an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Another addition to the 2014 tour will be in the introduction of the "Live Free and Send It" award in recognition and honoring of the competitive spirit of Chelone “Chilly” Miller, last year’s Overall Men Snowboard winner.

“The award will go to the competitor who embodies the free-spirit, skill and love of competition Chilly brought to the Banzai,” said Rahlves.

New Tour sponsors GoPro and Alaska Airlines are increasing the value and excitement, with GoPro capturing all the action and Alaska Airlines awarding four round-trip flights to any Alaska Airlines destination to each of the four overall Tour winners—Men Snowboard, Women Snowboard, Men Ski and Women’s Ski. Alaska Airlines will also offer the “Alaska Airlines Long Flight Award” of $100 Alaska Airlines bucks for best air during the Sunday finals at each Tour stop.

The 2014 Tour will once again be broadcast live on Truckee and Lake Tahoe’s own 101.5FM, who have also partnered with Alaska Airlines to send two lucky winners with round-trip airfare to Cordova as part of the station’s annual Points North Heli Ski Giveaway.

The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour Presented by Bank of the West is proud to be associated with Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Palisades Tahoe, Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl Resort, Red Bull, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., CEP Compression, Wend Wax, Lake Tahoe North, Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, Jagermeister, Alaska Airlines, and GoPro.
