Funky Weather Postpones Squaw's Cushing Crossing

Palisades Tahoe's highly-anticipated annual pond skimming event, the Lake Cushing Crossing, has been postponed from Sunday, May 29 to Sunday, July 3 due to inclement weather.

Snow began to fall midday Saturday and Palisades Tahoe is forecast to receive an additional three-to-five inches of snow overnight Saturday night. The continuing snowfall adds to the already record-breaking season snowfall total of 777 inches.

"This is the first time in history that we have hosted the Cushing Crossing in July," noted Jimmy King, Palisades Tahoe's Mountain Manager who has overseen every Lake Cushing Crossing. "We are hoping for better weather come July and summer temperatures should make for an incredible spectator event."

For those looking to enjoy the fresh May powder, Palisades Tahoe is open for skiing and riding through Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day Weekend.

The Lake Cushing Crossing, well known and respected as the original and 'big kahuna' of Tahoe's spring pond crossings, is a wildly entertaining competition that challenges competitors to cross the chilly waters of Cushing Pond on skis, a snowboard or any ski or snowboard-based vessel. The event is known for its colossal crashes, hilarious costumes, and ultra-creative pond skimming contraptions.

The rescheduled Lake Cushing Crossing will take place at the Cushing Pond at the base of Palisades Tahoe USA on Sunday, July 3 at 2 pm.
