Palisades Tahoe Update: The Ultimate 4th of July Weekend

Palisades Tahoe has long-touted its phenomenal convergence of sun and snow. This July 4th weekend will take it to a new level with concerts, an art festival, events, fireworks, and, oh-yeah, skiing and snowboarding.

As Americans fire up their backyard barbeques across the country, Palisades Tahoe will be hosting a sizzling 4th of July Weekend jam packed with summer skiing and riding, concerts, barbeques and pool parties. With record-breaking season snowfall now totaling 810 inches, Palisades Tahoe currently boasts a 14 foot base and fully snow-covered peaks.

KT Tribute Concerts
The party kicks off on Friday night with the first of three summer 'KT Tribute' concerts and a free concert by Stung, a Police tribute band. From there, the fun continues all weekend long with DJ pool parties and daily barbeques at the High Camp Pool & Hot Tub, live music at Gold Coast and the Fine Arts & Crafts Festival Friday through Sunday in the Village at Palisades Tahoe.

Skiing & Snowboarding
Palisades Tahoe will operate six lifts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. across 2,000 skiable acres on Saturday, July 2 through Monday, July 4, weather permitting. Lifts scheduled to run include the Funitel, Gold Coast Express, Shirley Lake Express, Links, the Cable Car and, recently added, Siberia Express. Lift tickets for 4th of July weekend will be $49 per day for adults and $12 for kids 12 and under. Skiing and riding will be free for 2011-12 Palisades Tahoe season passholders, and all skiers and riders will get a free commemorative 4th of July T-Shirt on Monday, July 4, while supplies last.

Free 'Big Head Todd' Concert & Fireworks

To truly make this Independence Day weekend one to remember, Palisades Tahoe has added a free Big Head Todd and the Monsters concert and a fireworks display t on July 3. Widely known for their legendary live shows and alternative blues-rock sound, Big Head Todd and the Monsters will take to the KT Sundeck stage for a free, all-ages concert starting a 7:45 p.m. Directly following the concert, Palisades Tahoe’s fireworks display will kick off at 9:15 p.m. with the best viewing from the KT Sundeck and The Village at Palisades Tahoe.

The Original, and Ultimate Pond Crossing
Last but certainly not least, 4th of July weekend brings the 21st Annual Lake Cushing Crossing, the resort’s acclaimed pond skimming event. This wildly entertaining competition challenges participants to cross the vast and chilly waters of Lake Cushing on skis, a snowboard or any ski or snowboard-based vessel. The event, known for its colossal crashes, hilarious costumes, and ultra-creative pond skimming contraptions, kicks off at 2 p.m. at the Cushing Pond.

“It’s a rare treat to get to ski or ride on the 4th of July, but this weekend is about much more than skiing,” said Andy Wirth, Palisades Tahoe’s President and CEO. “With Big Head Todd and the Monsters, live music around the mountain, barbeques, pool parties, and the Cushing Crossing—this is truly the ultimate 4th of July weekend."

In honor of Independence Day, active members of the military are invited to come ski and ride July 2 through July 4 free of charge.
