Tahoe's Native Triathlons Return

While the first Ironman Lake Tahoe approaches in late September, North Lake Tahoe hosts two major triathlon events with long-term roots in the region - XTERRA Lake Tahoe takes place this Saturday, August 17th, followed by the Lake Tahoe Triathlon on August 24th and 25th.

Both events, part of the multi-faceted Big Blue Adventure series, offer high-level and high altitude competitions accompanied by several surrounding activities and events. In addition, many training for the Ironman Lake Tahoe in September, are expected to use these events as another training outing.

XTERRA LAKE TAHOE
For some it's all about testing oneself, for others it's about friendly competition, and yet there are those that do it just for fun. Locally-owned and operated Big Blue Adventure does it again with these well-run and challenging races. All three take place on the same day - Saturday, August 17th - and offer competitors a serious challenge. The courses are well-positioned for spectators to watch and root on their favorite athletes, and spend a day at the beach in beautiful Incline Village, NV.

XTERRA Lake Tahoe Sprint & Duathalon - Saturday at 8am come see this all time classic off-road triathlon courses in Incline Village, NV.  Racers start with a swim in famous Lake Tahoe.  Both the Short and Long course complete the 22 mile bike with approximately 4000 feet of climbing. After the biking section racers transition onto a trail running course that is relatively flat to the finish.

Big Blue 5k & 10k Trail Run - Saturday 9am race start.  The Village Green in Incline Village, NV. is where the course starts. This is a large open grass community field. The event is set up and staged from here, and the trail system features tall pines, aspens and creek crossings..

LAKE TAHOE TRIATHLON

The Lake Tahoe Triathlon, touting itself as 'Planet Earth's most beautiful triathlon', takes place August 24th and 25th at Sugar Pine Point State Park, on Lake Tahoe's west shore. The two days of activities and competitions includes a Duathlon, Sprint Triathlon, Olympic Triathlon and a 'half-iron' distance 70.3 triathlon.

The Lake Tahoe Triathlon half course is a one lap 1.2 mile swim in beautiful clear Lake Tahoe, a 56-mile bike on Highway 89, showcasing the scenic Emerald Bay and views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra and a 13.1-mile run on a scenic blend of paved trails, fire roads and creek and lake side single tracks.
